The Student Guide Cocktail Bar: the Kalimotxo de EstudianteBy TheStudentGuide
So those pennies are getting tight, but we still wanna have a good time, right? Welcome to The Student Guide Cocktail Bar, come on in.
Drinking on a budget can be hard work and when you’ve already got all of that reading to do, the last thing you want to be doing is exerting your energies on figuring out what drinks you can afford.
The Student Guide Cocktail Bar is our latest feature which will bring you one affordable and tasty drink a month; buy your ingredients, drink our recipe until it wears thin, and by that time we’ll have another concoction for you to try!
This month’s tipple is the Kalimotxo de Estudiante, and to make it you will need:
1 bottle of cheap red wine (leftover cooking wine is ideal)
1 bottle of coca cola (own brand is perfect)
- In some form of container or box with a lid, mix the cola and red wine by shaking gently. Rest for a few minutes and serve over ice.
Originating in the Basque region of northern Spain, the Kalimotxo (or Calimocho) is a popular Spanish cocktail drunk by the yoot of Spain. Made using equal quantities of red wine and coca cola, the above recipe will serve 16 of you...if you drink it in small tumblers as is tradition.
The best thing about this recipe is that you can make it in as little or large quantities as you like, because you simply have to remember that you need the same amount of each. For a twist, you can add aniseed or lime or try the reverse (the Pitilingorri) using white wine and lemonade to the same proportions.
We hope you’ve enjoyed your visit, please call again next month for our cocktail of the month recipe!
