The Leeds Student under threat.

The Leeds Student under threat.

The Leeds Student newspaper is under threat after almost 45 years of publication.

Earlier last week it was found that the Leeds University Union had failed to achieve funding needed to cover its printing by almost £5,200.

Funds are usually provided by the union and ad’s controlled by the unions marketing team.
The Leeds Student is one of the UK’s most active student papers and has won countless media awards.

Volunteers, who help write and edit the student run publication have attempted to save it through external advertising however they were prevented from doing so in case it interfered with LUU commercial activities.

After the announcement Kyle Hulme, a student at the Uni, has launched an online petition and is encouraging students across the country to sign. Over 1000 students have registered their support online and at least 35 societies have also joined in support.

There are also talks of further actions being taken.

Do you want to take action? Sign the petition here.
