Students invited to make history with a unique Tour de France film

It’s a matter of days before the world’s best cyclists start the Tour De France in Yorkshire and speed through the UK.

To mark the long-awaited event, media, film and TV students are being urged to share their mobile phone videos to create a unique short film.

Online smartphone retailer Mobiles.co.uk is asking spectators to share their best mobile phone clips of the three stages: Leeds to Harrogate, York to Sheffield and Cambridge to London.

Whether they record the start of the race, famous regional landmarks, funny costumes or the deafening cheers from the crowds, the best clips will make it into the film and create a lasting reminder of the event.

The best entry from each race phase will win a GoPro Hero3, while the overall winner will also receive a Sony Xperia Z2.

Entries are accepted via YouTube, Instagram and Vine, using the hashtag #TDFfilm. All entrants must include details of where the clip was filmed and which smartphone it was filmed on.

Jay Karsandas, Digital Manager at Mobiles.co.uk, said: “The Tour de France is a huge deal for the UK, in particular for the towns and cities who will see the action up close and really experience the atmosphere.

“We want to mark it by producing a powerful video of their experiences, sharing the best bits that people who weren’t there would like to have seen. Over 90 per cent of us now own a mobile phone* and no doubt take it everywhere with us, so this is the perfect opportunity to use them and create a lasting memory of those key moments.”

The competition closes at midnight on Tuesday, 8th July.
