DVD Review: Pacific Rim

By Gemma.Cullen
DVD Review: Pacific Rim

Two hours of robots, aliens, impressive action scenes and a bit of romance thrown in for good measure — it’s no surprise there was such a buzz surrounding Pacific Rim when it smashed onto our cinema screens. And now it’s out on Blu-ray and DVD for you to enjoy the adventure once again.

Think Transformers, Iron Man and Godzilla all rolled into one and you’ve got a pretty epic film.

With the ultimate tension-builder — if no-one comes to the rescue the world will end — the storyline is made less predictable as the concept is innovative and has more depth than first appearances suggest; it’s not just robots fighting aliens. Two pilots control the robots (Jaegers) by connecting through their minds, and seeing into each other’s memories. Cue a backstory and a very impressive acting performance from 9-year-old Mana Ashida. The cast including Idris Elba and Charlie Hunnam is a mix of familiar and relatively unknown faces  a combination that works well.

The story-line and epic battles between Jaegers and Kaiju keep the film fresh and you'll be hooked till the end!

With extra scenes and outtakes to extend the action-packed entertainment, plus audio commentary from director Guillermo Del Toro, the Blu-ray or DVD is certainly worth grabbing.
