My Big Fat Diary Returns!By Sian McGivern
If, like me, you spent most of your time watching Season One of My Mad Fat Diary ogling Finn (Nico Mirallegro) and wondering how this beautiful creature could ever have been Newt in Hollyoaks, you’ll be excited to know that the second series returns on Monday 17th February on E4!
Adapted from Rae Earl’s real-life diaries and subsequent book, My Mad Fat Diary is set in the 90s at the height of cool Britannia. Despite body image, mental health and mummy issues, Rae (played by Sharon Rooney) also has to deal with the tribulations of being a teenager – which let’s be honest, is hard enough to deal with by itself (we’ve all been there!).
Whilst the first series had us all gripped to our seats with the will-they-won’t-they love story, the second season sees Rae return to education as she starts college and doubt starts to set in. Hilarity ensues, and an honest look at teenage life from the perspective of Rae coupled with the show’s mix of refreshingly relatable characters makes for epic viewing.
