Misha B interview

Misha B interview

“Every day is an adventure, I’m just exploring it!” Ahead of the release of her new single ‘Do You Think of Me?’, Misha B shares her advice for X Factor's latest contestants and explains how she’s adjusting to her new lifestyle.

The past year has been a whirlwind for 20 year-old singer-songwriter, Misha B. Since first appearing on X Factor in 2011, critics have described her as ‘one of the most exciting singers to emerge from the show’. Now, with her impending tour supporting Nicki Minaj and the upcoming release of her new single ‘Do You Think of Me’ on November 4, we’ve managed to grab her for a quick catch up.

Misha finished fourth in the X Factor semi-finals. Known for her memorable performance of Aretha Franklin’s ‘Respect’ and her bright, colourful outfits, since then she’s been busy making her music career happen. She released her single ‘Home Run’ in July 2012 which entered the top 15 of the charts.

Misha tells us that the key to her success is “all down to my passion for music and my passion for doing what I love.” That aside, this girl’s got talent. Speaking of one of her early performances, The Daily Telegraph described her as ‘oozing star quality from the start […] the teenager seemed like a proper pop star already.’

Even so, she’s still adjusting to her new lifestyle. “I’m just embracing it all, I kinda see every day as an adventure. I’m just exploring it, especially since I’ve moved from Manchester to London.”

Soon to release her new single ‘Do You Think of Me’ which was co-written by Misha herself, she’s been busier than ever. “Yesterday I was in Aberdeen, the day before that I was in Sheffield. It’s up and down the country, meeting new people, performing. Everything is hectic but good hectic.”

The single has a special meaning to the singer; she sings ‘You didn’t mean to let me down’, dedicating the song to her mother who gave her up when she was three months old. She hopes it’s a song that all her fans can take meaning from, “whether they’re missing someone who’s passed away, whether they’re missing a family member or friend because they’re no longer around them, or a lost relationship, to know they’re not really alone in it.”

Misha doesn’t disclose too much about the new video but she does tell us to “expect emotion.” It looks like it’ll be taking a different direction to the big eyelashes and neon colours seen in ‘Home Run’ then...

Misha B is soon to be supporting Nicki Minaj on tour, but while she's excited she feels the pressure too. “I’m nervous at the same time, I think the whole experience is going to be incredible.” This is understandable since she'll be touring with one of the bestselling artists of the moment. Misha says “I admire her [Nicki’s] courage and determination. To me, she is the proper meaning of a female boss. Somebody that really, really owns it, she’s in control of what she does. I love that.”

Finally Misha gives some advice to the current X Factor contestants; “Have fun, don’t overthink anything and stay true to yourself because that’s where the real happiness is.” She says in this knowledge, she might have relaxed a bit more if she could do it all again.

We wish Misha the best of luck with her new single and the upcoming tour!
