Interview with DJ Darius Syrossian

Interview with DJ Darius Syrossian

Have you got plans for New Year’s Eve yet? Erm… why not?! Egg London are having a terrific night showcasing some of the best DJ talent going – and tickets are still available. We caught up with DJ Darius Syrossian, to see what we can expect from his set!

You’ve been involved in music for nearly two decades – how did you know it was the career for you?

Well, when I used to go to raves when we I was really young and some friends we all used to go out with stopped and I realised this wasn't just going out for me. It was everything. The music, my passion, wasn't just something to listen to while I was 17 - 22, I wanted to make this music swell. I ate it, slept it, breathed it! So I decided to make it my career.

What got you into DJing and Producing?

I always wanted to produce and in the late 90's started collecting hardware but, remember, in this days there was no Ableton [production software]! Even a basic sound card cost thousands, it was all about hardware, I taught myself how to use it all and to this day loads of that old hardware plays a big part in my productions.

Do you have a favourite club to play in the UK?

Simple answer is Sankeys! It’s just made perfectly. I find the people that always moan about it are the people who don't go out anymore and resent that young people are having fun. They all sound like a broken robot repeating the same things whining and moaning about the club, reality is, Sankeys is just a great space to have an awesome party! Simple as that.

There are loads of other places I love djing because of the people. Up in Newcastle I have had some awesome shows, the crowds have also been ace Liverpool, Birmingham, Scotland, and lately London has really picked up its game! London has some great parties with top atmosphere lately, for a while it was famous for having a flat atmosphere but good line ups. I find that Italy and Ireland particular, whenever I play, are brilliant too.

You’re really busy for the next couple of months. What’s life like in between shows?

Well I'm super busy in the studio since I got back from Ibiza! There’s loads coming out like a remix of Sidney Charles and a couple of tracks on the Swiss label Definition:Music, which always press vinyl. There’re also 2 tracks on Hector Couto's Roush label and some stuff for Sante's Avotre label.
My new radio show starts, watch this space as info coming on that soon, and I'm actually busy trying to buy a house! I was going to move to London but I'm a northerner at heart and I love Manchester. Didsbury is very close to Manchester airport which is perfect for me.

Speaking of travel, your work has taken you all around the world. Where do you think had the maddest party scene?

ITALIANS ARE INSANE! They’re so passionate! They love to party hard and the atmosphere in the clubs when they party is awesome. I also find eastern Europe, like Serbia, Croatia and places like that wicked too.

What can we expect from you NYE set at EGG?

I have so many new productions I haven't unleashed yet! I've road tested them and they are going down really well. By the time NYE comes around, I'm going to have them all mastered and ready to drop! I’m really looking forward to it; the Egg has upped its game in last 12 months!

A lot better line up, a wicked new Ace sound system, and London in general at the moment is great for partying – it’s like the good old days when the end used to be rocking! Lots of people really loving the music, let’s see what happens…

If you weren’t DJing the night away – how would you celebrate the New Year?!

Easiest answer I’ll ever give in an interview! I’d be on the dance floor losing myself to the music :)
