Festival Preview: Love Saves the DayBy Eleanor Downing
Kicking off the festival season this May bank holiday is Bristol weekender Love Saves the Day in Eastville Park.
Created by the team behind Glastonbury Dance Village's Wow! stage, See No Evil and half of In: Motion, the festival is a "celebration of this city and all that makes it so great". This year headliners include Groove Armada, Julio Bashmore, Jessie Ware, Rae Morris, Azealia Banks and Grandmaster Flash. Other accomplished DJs to look out for across the weekend include Gorgon City, Artwork, TCTS, Tale of Us, Four Tet and Redlight.
Azealia Banks has had a successful career to date dropping her eagerly anticipated album Broke With Expensive Taste last year. A regular at the festival scene she is known for her punchy, spirited performances and dazzling, galactic outfits. Definitely not to be missed as even if you aren’t a fan of her music per say, she will undoubtedly put on a spectacle at the main stage on Sunday.
Dance music icons Groove Armada are perhaps best known for smash hits like ‘Superstylin’,’ Down by the River’ and ‘I See You Baby’. However classics as these tracks are, the duo have moved into deeper, more minimal sounds keeping up with the contemporary house music scene. Expect a mixed bag of dance classics, deep house and electro from these guys on Saturday.
Finally for something a little mellower why not true the syrupy tones of Jessie Ware to soothe your ears on Saturday. Her debut album Devotion peaked at number five in the album chart in 2012 but by no means did Jessie peak with it. Alongside singing vocals for DJs Disclosure and SBTRKT, she has had several hit singles including ‘Wildest Moments’ ‘Tough Love’ and recently ‘Champagne Kisses’. Jessie provides that perfect synth of soul, emotion and energy making her an ideal headline act.
Official Love Saves the Night after parties are taking place on both Saturday and Sunday at a range of different venues including Motion. Headliners include Gorgon City, Shadow Child, David Rodigan, Gotsome , Julio Bashmore ,B. Traits, Waifs & Strays , Four Tet and Danny Byrd.
Although Love Saves the Day is a fairly new addition to the festival scene, its stage breakdowns, experienced organisers, competitive price and array of diverse acts guarantee that in a few years’ time it will definitely be a keynote festival, particularly if you hate camping!
