Top ten lace looks for the summer season!

Though the grey skies seem set to keep our sunshine staples shelved, the heavenly scents of the summer will soon be wafting back into our lives!

If you want to scintillate this season, then there is one sure fire look set to make you the belle of the ball, boathouse, backyard and bedroom!

The look is lace. The colours: cool creams, muted pastels and aqueous blue-greens. The style: fresh and dainty.

Here at The Student Guide we have compiled ten of this season’s best lacey- looks to make your wallet and your wardrobe smile. And if you love lace as much as we do, check out our new Pinterest feature which tracks this most fabulous of fabrics through time!

Look 1: 50s Chic

Team this pretty aqua number with a high-waisted pleated skirt or jeans, and layer over with some similarly delicious sheer fabric tops to add colour and a hint of texture to your outfit. It's Vintage Darling Blue Lace Body Suit £12.

Look 2: Soft but Sexy

This season nipped in waistlines and flowing folds will be scorching the high street. This pretty white frock from Tesco’s F&F will give great shape and an aura of pretty summer charm. Don a pair of flat strappy sandals, delicate jewellery and a sophisticated up-do to show off that neck line. F&F mid length lace dress £25.

Look 3: Understated Glamour

Black and white combos will be on demand this summer to counteract those luscious green hues. This beautiful black and cream brocaded dress with sheer skirt is pure flirty, fun elegance. Dress it down with discreet heels, bare legs and classy clutch and let your silhouette do the talking. Lilyana dress from Misguided £24.99.

Look 4: Lace de Luxe

Wouldn’t we all love to look as ravishing as this lady in lace? The fabric’s hushed citrus tone over-laid with white lace makes this lingerie set an indulgent fashion fix, and with great M&S bra infrastructure who could say no?! M&S Flatter me bra £25 and Brazilian knickers £12.50.

Look 5: Sherbet Sweet

It’s short, it’s sweet, it’s summer sorbet loveliness. Pastel shades have already been creeping into our spring wardrobes, but come summer these powder puff tones will come into their own. The little gem from Warehouse is a perfect accompaniment to any Afternoon tea date! Yellow Lace Dress £58, Warehouse

Look 6: Summer Meadow

This season Mint Velvet have followed the exposed zip through to their 2012 collection, adding some bite to this cute cardigan. Floral prints and teasing transparents are set to big, so bag yourself this delicate knit and marry it up with skinny jeans, wedge heels and big sunnies for effortless chic. Foundation Lace Cardigan £59 Mint Velvet.

Look 7: Ruffle me softly

Romantic ruffles, pleats and folds are back, as are bold colours. This saturated turquoise tint will flatter darker skin tones, so sport with bare legs and light strappy sandals to keep the look fresh and young. Lace shift dress from M&Co, £59.

Look 8:  Dab of drab

Yes this dress may be more Miss Havisham than Miss World, but this muted pink is as softly sassy as it comes this season. With plush vertical pleats and a floaty finish, this dress will work wonders with a slender healed, oval toed shoe and pearl studs. Leigh Lace dress, Monsoon £85.

Look 9: Slender Shift

Mid length skirts are on trend, and this pleated lace dress from Biba is a contemporary classic. Why not add some street style to this piece by adding shape with a slender belt at the waist, a messy bun, denim jacket and blood red lipstick? White pleated lace dress, £107 from Biba.

Look 10: Cornflower Blue

As the most expensive of our lace garments, this stunningly delicate shift dress is sure to keep you sitting pretty this summer. The nostalgic blue lace trim, flowing skirt and crisp white lace panelling will take you back to some of the more traditional forms of lace design and yet make you an on trend 2012 summer girl. Label Lab at House of Fraser £125.
