City breaks away from uni: Berlin

City breaks away from uni: Berlin

Can’t afford to spend a week in the sun this year? Don’t worry! There are plenty of awesome cities across Europe you can let your hair down in for a fraction of the cost! Today we’re going to have a cheeky look at the clubbing hotspot that is Berlin, Germany.

With the fall of the wall some 26 years ago, came the fall of inhibitions, leading to a hotspot for clubbers of all ages and genres to get their groove on! The party literally never ends with day clubs, late entry and even later closing hours. So why not blow off some steam like the Germans do – all night long!

Obviously, it’s not just a city to get wrecked in, but it’s a great place to let your hair down for the weekend after your exams!

So where do you begin? How about with:

Stay!

As with everywhere in Berlin, its quirky style has even integrated itself into its accommodation. There is a range of different types; from boutique luxury to urban hostel, all providing an unforgettable experience at a low cost.

For a modern approach to staying, we’d recommend Hotel AMANO – a wonderfully simple, but up-to-date place to stay. Based in the city centre, you can expect a bunch of mod-cons here, including WiFi, air-con and even X-Box rental! At £208 for a three night stay* in a comfortable double room or £253 for three nights in an apartment, there’s nothing stopping you!

If you’d like a little more stylised place to rest your head you could always try Askanischer Hof. The quaint little place is a vintage dream, flooded with retro décor and fittings. For three nights here* you can expect to pay around £175 for a standard double room or £233 for their special comfort rooms. Oh, and there’s WiFi.

Bars!

Berlin is full of bars, but we totally recommend cocktail bars - you’re on holiday, why not get fancy drunk?

The glitterati is a massive fan of Green Door in Schöneberg, with patrons including Christopher Isherwood and David Bowie. This bar is for those who know their drinks, with a cocktail menu as long as your arm and then some and bartenders that can make them all by name. Between 6 – 8pm is Happy Hour, where the prices are lowered considerably so make sure you plan your trip around then! This versatile place is a kick ass place to hang out, chat and get a little merry! (In a classy way, obviously.)

Gingham walls and complicated drinks...perfect!

Clubs!

As with everything here, there’s a huge variety of clubs to visit during your stay. From techno to house, rock to disco, everyone can enjoy a night on the tiles.

In Stattbad in Wedding, you can get your groove on in an ex-Olympic swimming pool! Originally an industrial building, this grungy setting is where the Boiler Room DJ live stream events take place and will surely lead to a few interesting night out stories.

Can you imagine partying in here?!

Cure your hangover!

Germany is a comfort food haven – a hangovers dream. Grab yourself a Currywurst (chopped up sausage covered in a spicy tomato sauce, dusted lightly with curry powder), find somewhere comfy to sit and eat those bad feelings away.
