Would you sell your name?By Sj.Cliff
As students, you’re always going to be desperate for a little extra cash –but how far would you be willing to go?
Alan Kerr, a final year student at Edinburgh College of Art, is taking things to a new level. Instead of getting a bar job like a normal guy would, he’s auctioning off his surname.
He’ll change his surname, for a year, by deed pool to the highest bidders’ company name, in the style of a strange human advert. He’s not bothered what company it is, however big or small they may be, it’s going to happen.
Let’s just hope PussyDrinks (yes, we’re serious) isn’t interested.
The student, who lives in Leith, said:
“It’s basically just like the David Beckham sponsorship deal with pants, or like how football teams get sponsorship on their shirts.
“It’s about artists and how artists make money and how – as a young graduating artist – I can make money.
“When you are at art school you realise that people just make things and show them and then they either go in the bin or back to their room. This is an artwork that I can take with me everywhere.”
