Tired of boring photos? We spoke to The Stock Photobomber!By Sj.Cliff
When you work in the world of publishing and most media professions, in fact, you are going to come across stock images.
While they’re supposed to demonstrate a point, a lot of them are either hilariously bad (have you ever seen the Hide The Pain Harold meme?) or missing something – and that’s where Matt Vescovo come in.
As an art director in advertising, Matt’s seen more of these pictures than you’ve had shots on a night out. He didn’t like the way that the stock photos pretended to be something more than they were – a staged reconstruction of real life.
It’s this that set Matt off on an epic mission…. To photo bomb stock photos! His job means he’s no stranger to photo editing, letting Matt seamlessly blend himself into sterile situations and injecting his own brand of humour.
When I asked Matt why he’d embarked on such a hilarious project he simply said:
“I just felt that some of the stock photos I had been seeing didn't feel very real and I thought the best way to fix that was to place myself in the photo. That way I changed the narrative and turned the whole thing on its head and made it more real.”
Just have a look at a few of his most recent bombs…
Planning on releasing a book this year, we can only applaud Matt’s services to the terminally boring world of stock photos. His email signature says it all; "I inject reality into an unreal world by injecting myself. I am the Stock Photobomber."
