Goat simulator. Is being a goat all it’s cracked up to be?

Goat simulator. Is being a goat all it’s cracked up to be?

Youtubers have been going mad for it, but what the fuck is Goat Simulator and why is it getting so popular?

As the title suggests, in the game you are a goat. There’s not really much else to it. The points lie in the achievements that you can get for doing goaty stuff or just being strange. It’s not too challenging either, with the first achievement being “score some points”

So why is a game that, in essence, sounds terminally boring and in practise is terrible, be so amazing?

The game was originally created as a joke at a game jam- totally explaining its April 1st release date..

Goat simulator was made as a small game jam game and that’s how we want to keep it. We will polish the game up (but keep the funny bugs of course!), but we want to keep the core gameplay small and silly. Hopefully the game can make you laugh for an hour or something. We are, however, working on Steam Workshop support so people can edit in their own levels in the game!

It was inspired by the retro skate games, but instead of doing tricks, you break things. And, obviously, jump on trampolines.

Using your goat powers of head-butting and licking stuff, you trot around your pen and city, destroying things as you go.

As a game, it sucks.

For a start, the game design isn’t really that great. Your goat gets stuck in a range of compromising positions as well as glitching out every 5 mins. The landscape you have to destroy seems to encounter the same problems, with parts of it flying around the screen on contact, while others get stuck in walls…

But as what it is, a spoof, these ‘problems’ all create a hilarious experience.

Using a seemingly endless tongue, you can catapult people into the air. Head-butting a car a few times causes it to explode, throwing you (and other loose background items) for miles across the map.

Without having a go at it yourself, it can all sound a little bit strange – but trust me it’s totally worth it. I, for one, am now a goat enthusiast!
