Studying languages or looking for language interpreter jobs? Which language resources do you need…?
There are so many helpful language resources out there, but it's hard to know which size, style or brand to go for. We selected the best language learning tools available on the market to help you fast-track your fluency.
Modern Foreign Languages, interpretation and translation study
Collins has a range of dictionaries suitable for every language student, which are solid enough to stand up to four years constant use. Most academics say that dictionaries should have at least 200,000 translations and references. The dictionaries they recommend on the reading lists are Complete and Unabridged because they have every word you’ll ever need, as well as examples of usage and idioms to help you master the lingo.
If you are thinking about going into translation or interpretation work after graduation or simply love Dante and Voltaire, you might want to invest in even bigger dictionaries, such as the Collins French Robert Dictionary and Zanichelli il Ragazzini - with over half a million references and translations won’t let you down!

Hope that helps
I do quite a bit of translation from German into English, and use the big (2000 pp) Collins dictionary for this. It is definitely still the best single-volume bilingual dictionary available.
However, it is very large and heavy and so somewhat difficult to use for frequent reference, and very difficult to carry with one when travelling.
I am sure that there are many people who, like me, have similar problems in using this excellent dictionary, and who would therefore very much welcome an e-book edition of it.
Yet apparently the only Collins e-dictionaries currently available are relatively small ones, which are of little use for serious translation.
I’d be grateful, therefore,if you could let me know whether the large Collins German dictionary is to be published in e-format in the foreseeable future.
