XX working on second album

Award winning band also launch new blog

The XX have announced they have started work on their highly anticipated second album.

The Mercury award winning group, consisting of Jamie Smith, Romy Madley Croft and Oliver Sim revealed the news as they launched their new blog, xx-xx.co.uk.

“We have started recording our second album,” the group posted on the blog.

“We have also started this blog where we will post our inspirations and pictures and favourite songs.”

The news will come as welcome relief to fans after the band had previously said they were unsure if any new material would be recorded.

The band, who Barclaycard Mercury Prize for their self-titled debut album in 2010, had previously cast doubt on whether they would even record a second album

The band was nominated for Best British Album, Best British Breakthrough and Best British Band at this year’s BRIT Awards.

A year earlier, the band's eponymous debut album won the Barclaycard Mercury Prize.

In less than an hour, hundreds of excited fans commented on the group's Facebook page.

"[The] Best way to start my morning," commented Daniel Chivardi while Samuel Porras said, "I have been waiting for this moment for so long."

There are no details regarding a release date.
