Dance world unites to pay tribute to DJ Mehdi
Tributes are still pouring in to DJ Mehdi after he died in a tragic accident.
Mehdi, born Mehdi Favéris-Essadi, died on Tuesday when he fell through a Plexiglas ceiling at his Paris home.
He was celebrating the birthday of Riton, his partner in new production duo Carte Blanche. Three others were injured in the accident.
"We lost our brother. No words," tweeted Chromeo who had previously worked with Mehdi on I Am Somebody.
“I'm speechless for the loss of DJ Mehdi. Sending all my love to his beautiful family and to Pedro Winter and Ed Banger Records in Paris. X,” tweeted BBC Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac.
“RIP...Cant believe I was with you Saturday,” tweeted dubstep producer Skream who performed at Bestival with Mehdi this weekend.
Riton, real name Henry Smithson, was the only person not to have fallen through the roof.
“Just want everyone to know that we were all laughing our asses off 1/2 second before the accident and simon alegia and louise are all well,” he later tweeted, before posting, “I love you Mehdi”.
Paris Social Club closed their doors on Tuesday night to honour the musician.
"Following the death of DJ Mehdi, we have made the exceptional decision to close the club tonight. An evening of silence in honour of the artist. Thank you for not commenting on this status,” they posted to their Facebook page.
"Words fail us right now. What a smiler, what a gent, what a DJ, what a producer. you will be missed," tweeted the renowned Fabric nightclub.
Mehdi was regarded as a pioneer for fusing hip-hop and electro.
The news first broke on Twitter and was thought to be a hoax.
But his PR company later confirmed the news.
He is survived by well-known French artist and former model Fafi.
