Six tracks to get you in the Friday mood

Six tracks to get you in the Friday mood

It’s that time again: Friday, and whilst you may have a few hours to go before your last lecture or seminar, we imagine you've already got your sights on getting the party mood.

But wait you're going to need some top tracks to get you in the mood, right? Well here's our favourite tracks that have got us moving in the office.

Shamir - On the Regular

No one really knows much about Shamir. All we know is that he released a disco indebted track If It Wasn't True a couple of months ago, he's 19 years old and he comes from America's gambling capital, Las Vegas. That's it really. Oh, and that his latest track is a slice of bouncy rap-pop that is sure to get you dancing around your house whilst you get ready.

Kieran Alleyne – Running Low

So, your pals are over and you need that one song to get everyone moving. Well, this has all the components needed: silky vocals, a five-word chorus (yeah, we ain’t running low) that anyone can sing along to, icy hi-hats and a fantastic saxophone loop. Perfect.

One Direction – ‘Steal My Girl’ (Remixed by 88Ninety’s ‘Raiders Of The Lost Art’)

We were thinking of ways in which we could credibly include Steal My Girl. Sure it's been about for a while, but it's still the most guilty of pleasures. Luckily, we have found a way of re-introducing this into our list. It has been remixed by the anonymous 88Ninety, and it sounds like it would have slotted very nicely into a slow motion 80s sci-fi action scene.

Beyonce - Ring Off

Most fans of Queen B have been ignoring what the tabloids are claiming about America's greatest power couple, for it's all about her superb pop music. However, yesterday Mrs. Knowles dropped a track that nods to her perhaps becoming a Miss again.

It has worried us, especially as the chorus goes:

'Until you had enough then you took that ring off/ You took that ring off/ So tired of the lies and trying and fighting and crying/ You took that ring off/ Ooh now the fun begins!'

Is she courting controversy? Is she having some troubles at home? We're not so sure. But it is a bit of a smasher.

Drake - How About Now?

What is it about Drizzy? He just can't chill out and enjoy himself. Just when everyone had gotten over the fact he was too ill to play Wireless this summer, the Canadian rapper-cum-singer-cum-songwriter-cum-occasional comedian on American sketchshows casually dropps three tracks onto his Soundcloud, leaving us wondering whether they album potentials.

Of the three, there's a chilled out one where he talks about how the youngsters aren't reading anymore, a fast blistering one that showcases his faultless flow, and How About Now - the catchiest of the trio.

Of course the song details him getting at an old flame for not believing in him when he was a mere teenage actor, and of course it's a great tune to ward away the spirit of your annoying ex before a night out.

The Weeknd - Often (Kygo Remix)

Need that five minutes before you start to turn things up a little bit? Well, thank the Lord for The Weeknd - chilled out R&B for that weird moment on Friday when you get back home and just need to lie on your bed for five minutes. Its production is smooth and its lyrics are, dare I say, sultry. Great, now I've made myself feel sick. At least I didn't say ‘risqué’.
