Charity jumpers to keep you warm this winter!

Charity jumpers to keep you warm this winter!

Friday the 12th of December is Christmas jumper day. This awesome holiday is the brainchild of Save the Children, who have been encouraging people to ‘make the world better with a sweater’ for the past 3 years.

For many years these woollen crimes against fashion were lurking around the bottom of wardrobes in shame, but now it turns out that our patterned friends are making a comeback in the fashion world too.  I’m not sure if it’s something that’s supposed to be done ironically or if there really is something to these warm, jazzy jumpers. But I’m going to find out!

As money is tight around this time of year and the event aims to raise money, we decided the best place to obtain our fair-isle arsenal would be at a charity shop. Our good friends at Oxfam Shirley were on hand to help us! All of the jumpers in this article were lent to us by their store, in order to showcase what little gems you can find!

*Small Disclaimer: I, SJ Cliff not consider myself a fashion guru, neither do my friends. I do however own a tonne of jumpers, so I feel a little bit qualified to talk about them – but not that much.

The Novelty - £3. 99

After all, novelty is what this jumper day is all about! This adorable little snowman piece is a Christmas cutey! The size is slightly off (pretty sure it’s a men’s item) but it passes as oversized and I kind of like it that way. If it was any smaller the snowman scarf wouldn’t float as majestically as it does on a larger garment. Just goes to show that even if the charity shop doesn’t have your size then you can still pick up a Christmas Jumper!

The Christmas Patterned – £4.99

You don’t have to have a giant bearded Santa… or a scarf wearing snowman… to get seasonal with your knitwear! I managed to find this neutrally patterned (rein)deer jumper on Oxfam’s rail and I fell in love with it! Not garish enough to make you look Christmas mental, subtly seasonal and not to mention the most important part – MARVELOUSLY FLUFFY!

The Classic Grandma – £3.99

Both in pattern and shape, this jumper screams little old lady, but paired with the right things it can be office cool and Christmas sweety. Obviously I chose to look like a little old lady.

The boxy fit just adds more space for toastyness and the slightly shorter sleeves can be rolled to create a ¾ length effect – perfect for tiding you over into summer.

The On-Trend – £4.99

My on trend choice from the charity haul is this adorable blue gradient jumper. The bold, darker blue colour at the top combined with the lighter bottom gives off the impression you’re playing along with jumper day, while looking fine as hell!

All together icey, this jumper says Christmas, without forcing it down your throat.

The Alternative – £4.99

For those of you who don’t want to hide in the background I’ve managed to find the most neon printed, off-matched woollen creation going. As a bit of an alt-girl myself, I bloody loved this jumper – despite the looks I got at the bus stop on my way into the office.

I honestly didn’t think that I’d fine such a unique, statement piece at the local charity shop! It just proves that having a good look round!
