Big Chill 2012 cancelled
Organiser says there may be a smaller, indoor event this year
This year's Big Chill Festival has been cancelled, with organisers saying the London Olympics has impacted on artist availability.
An alternative date for the festival was considered but could not be found.
“I looked long and hard late last year at moving the date so it didn’t clash with the Olympics but the mix of the festival fans' desire to keep the date and an inability to find an alternative date that works I plumped for maintaining the existing weekend,” said Festival director Melvin Benn.
“Sadly, the artist availability and confirmations we were achieving led me to conclude that I couldn’t risk going ahead with the event as an outdoor event this year,” he said.
Benn said efforts are being made to bring a smaller event indoors this year with the anticipation of the Big Chill being back outdoors next year.
General ticket details and the line-up had yet to be announced for this year's festival.
2011 saw The Chemical Brothers, Kanye West and Rodrigo y Gabriela headline the event while Jessie J, Calvin Harris and Katy B also made appearances.
The Big Chill has been going since 1994 and has been held in the grounds of Eastnor Castle, Herefordshire.
